About Word Decks
A word game where spotting a good word is only the beginning.
Who makes it?
Word Decks is an independent project created and operated by Dave Owens, based in England, United Kingdom. The games bring together his interest in word puzzles, card games and the decisions that make a short game worth playing again.
In Why I built Word Decks, Dave describes the idea that followed playing Balatro and Wordle: what if a word game let you spend points to change the letters you would have next? Friends helped test the game, and a friend with graphic and UI design experience helped make it clearer to play.
The decision at the centre of the game
Finding a high-scoring word is satisfying. Finding three words that share no physical cards is a different puzzle. Then the market adds a second question: should you keep the points you have earned, or buy a letter that might earn more next round?
The original game gives you time to think during the word rounds. Word Dextreme adds a clock, challenges and permanent upgrades. Word Decks Rush starts in the market and compresses the decision into one round. Compare all three games to choose your pace.
Built for a browser
You can play on a phone or computer without installing an app. Guest play and guided tutorials let you try the games first; shared accounts add eligible saved scores and social features. The Guides & Articles section explains the controls and explores decisions through worked examples.
Word Decks is in public beta; Dextreme and Rush are in alpha testing. Feedback helps identify unclear instructions, awkward layouts and balance problems. Testing labels describe development status, not a promise that every feature will stay the same.
